Air conditioning systems for both home and industrial use are meant to be high-quality and reliable. But it may happen that on a blisteringly hot day, your unit stops operation and you see a dreaded error code on the display of the indoor unit. The thing is, error codes are a part and parcel of the convenience the air conditioners provide.
Most of us have seen several error codes on display on air conditioners and one includes EO. But what does EO mean on air conditioner and what you can do about it? In this article, we’ll explain everything you need to know about EO on the air conditioner.
Best Portable Air Conditioners
EO means Outdoor Unit Protection Device Activated. This error code occurs on your air conditioner due to various reasons. It could either be due to an outdoor PCB defect, clogging of the refrigerant piping system, an outdoor compressor motor lock, insufficient refrigerant, or an outdoor compressor start-up error. Others include outdoor fan motor lock, overload, or outdoor malfunction of EEV. When you see the EO error, you may be worried that the air conditioner is completely busted, or whether there is any possibility of saving it. All worries aside, the error code EO you see on your air conditioner is not cause for major concern and is easy to fix.
The EO code is not a reason to chuck your expensive AC unit, but if it repeatedly occurs, you need to report to the technical support team of the manufacturer. Here is a step-by-step procedure you need to follow to troubleshoot the error.
Before attempting to clear an EO error code, it’s always a good idea to check the manual for your air conditioner model. The error codes are listed in the back of the manual in the troubleshooting section. If you’ve lost the user manual, you can find it on the manufacturer’s website. If you’re not able to find it, enter your model number in the search field with the term manual. This will probably lead you to a website that preserves a database of appliance manuals.
Press the reset button on the control panel of the air conditioner to attempt to clear the error code. However, if the error code does not reset or continues to reoccur, proceed with the following troubleshooting steps.
Go around your house to where the outdoor unit is located and find the isolator switch on the unit or the wall beside the unit. It looks like a commercial on/off switch. Turn the switch off and leave it off for about an hour.
Turn the isolator switch on and turn the unit on from the master controller and see how the system runs. This should remove the EO error code.
If the EO error code occurs repeatedly and is not accompanied by other codes, then:
When you’ve checked all these and they’re functioning the way they need to and still the EO occurs, you need to call an HVAC expert to check your air conditioning system. Always remember to do regular maintenance and an annual inspection of your AC unit if you want it to last its intended life. Good luck!
