What EO Means

EO means Outdoor Unit Protection Device Activated. This error code occurs on your air conditioner due to various reasons. It could either be due to an outdoor PCB defect, clogging of the refrigerant piping system, an outdoor compressor motor lock, insufficient refrigerant, or an outdoor compressor start-up error. Others include outdoor fan motor lock, overload, or outdoor malfunction of EEV. When you see the EO error, you may be worried that the air conditioner is completely busted, or whether there is any possibility of saving it. All worries aside, the error code EO you see on your air conditioner is not cause for major concern and is easy to fix.

How to Troubleshoot EO Code

The EO code is not a reason to chuck your expensive AC unit, but if it repeatedly occurs, you need to report to the technical support team of the manufacturer. Here is a step-by-step procedure you need to follow to troubleshoot the error.

Step 1 – Check the Manual

Before attempting to clear an EO error code, it’s always a good idea to check the manual for your air conditioner model. The error codes are listed in the back of the manual in the troubleshooting section. If you’ve lost the user manual, you can find it on the manufacturer’s website. If you’re not able to find it, enter your model number in the search field with the term manual. This will probably lead you to a website that preserves a database of appliance manuals.

Step 2 – Press the Reset Button

• Verify whether the air con is plugged into a properly grounded 120V AC supply.
• Use a voltage tester.
• Ensure the air con is not being supplied power by a generator.
• Supply the air con with electricity from a dedicated electrical circuit.
• Disconnect the power supply cord and verify the power supply wire and ground wire are properly connected.

When you’ve checked all these and they’re functioning the way they need to and still the EO occurs, you need to call an HVAC expert to check your air conditioning system.
